What can games, a murder mystery and a driving test demonstrate about neurophysiology? Explore brain anatomy, memory and attention free at: http://learn.genetics.utah.edu. The Memory, Attention and Distraction supplemental curriculum module explores concepts from cell biology, neurophysiology, and neuropsychology to help students understand how our bodies process sensory input, and how these inputs influence attention and memory. The module includes: a short multimedia presentation and complimentary kinesthetic activity that explore the relationship between brain anatomy and memory formation, an interactive video murder mystery that illustrates the imperfection of memories, a driving simulator that tests the brain’s ability to multitask, and game-like memory tests and examples that help student’s gauge sensory memory, recall and ability to filter out distractions. The components of the supplemental curriculum module can be used together or individually, and have been designed to easily integrate in to a variety of classes and contexts. Use of the module components will be demonstrated and ideas for integration discussed.
