Rocks are one of the easiest things to collect and children love rocks! We will present creative and fun ways to use rocks, not just to teach science, but reading, writing, spelling, math, and the arts. It will be part presentation and part participation with some hands on activities. We have both informational and narrative books on rocks that we will share. We also have a fairly large and varied rock collection that has been collected over time from different parts of the country. We will give teachers ideas on how to start their own rock collections. Lorene Fullmer has been teaching about rocks in preschool, kindergarten or first grades classes for 15 years. Cari Frazier graduated in geology before she decided to go back to school in education. She has been a first grade teacher for 11 years.

Kindergarten Teacher, Jordan School District, Copper Canyon Elementary
I am originally from Seattle, Washington and I love rain! I now enjoy living in Utah with my husband. My education is in Early Childhood Ed andI have taught preschool, kindergarten or first grade for the last 15 years. It is fun to teach the little ones about rocks, because they see beauty and magic in the most ordinary things. When I'm not teaching, I love reading, old movies, crafts and creating classroom games and activities on my computer.
