Participants will put on their student "hats" and experience a simple lab in order to generate data and a display of this data. These data displays will be the centerpiece of the rest of the session. The session will focus on ways to deeply dig into the data that is generated in any lab. First, an analysis and interpretation tool that can be applied to almost any dataset in any subject will be explored. After analyzing the data, participants will practice a technique used to construct an explanation. Using little more than poster paper and markers, science teachers can bring the heart of the NGSS Science and Engineering Practices to their classroom. Teachers will leave with concrete instructions and experience using two widely applicable techniques. Together, we will also share ideas for labs that readily engage students in the NGSS Science and Engineering Practices.
