This session will introduce participants to the new UT Science with Engineering Education (SEEd) Standards through a hands-on task to help highlight the major shifts in the format and function of the new 8th Grade science standards.
The new 8th Grade SEEd Standards will not be used in Utah until the 2017-18 school year. This session will look at how the vision for the SEEd Standards can be incorporated into the current 8th grade core science standards. The main focus will be on the relationships between the old and new standards, and teaching approaches that are beneficial to science learning with both documents.
This session will highlight how teachers can work with our informal science education groups (such as museums, aquarium, planetarium, etc.) to gain lesson ideas that support the new standards. The session will highlight task(s) that provides examples of the new science standards.
Our new science standards integrate science and engineering practices. This is a hands-on workshop for eighth grade teachers who would like to learn how to incorporate engineering into the new science standards.
